Irkutsk Region Shuts Down Illegal 10 MW Crypto Mining Farm

Prosecutors in Russia’s Irkutsk region have halted operations at an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm with a power draw of up to 10 MW. The facility, located on the grounds of a former reinforced concrete plant in the city of Shelekhov, spanned two buildings and was supplied by 10 transformer substations.

Authorities said the company using the premises lacked the necessary permits and had committed serious fire safety violations. Following a request from prosecutors, a court ordered the buildings closed until the violations are remedied.

Officials did not disclose the name of the company or provide details on potential fines or criminal charges. The case underscores ongoing enforcement against unauthorized mining operations that pose safety risks and place significant loads on local power infrastructure.

The court order remains in effect until the site comes into full compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
